Changing your email happens in two steps: you request the change inside your account and confirm it through the link that arrives at the new address. Until that link is opened, the old address is still the one that counts.
Step by step
- Sign in and open Security.
- Choose to change your email.
- Type the new address and send the request.
- Open the inbox of the new address, not the old one.
- Tap the link in the message.
- The screen confirms the change and takes you back to your account.
Important points
That is how the platform confirms the address is really yours and really works. If the message never arrives, either the address was typed wrong or that inbox is not accepting the message.
Once opened, it stops working. Once the deadline passes, it stops working too. In both cases the way out is to request the change again.
Every new request invalidates the older links on that account. If you requested twice, only the link in the most recent message works.
The request is refused when you send it, and refused again at confirmation time if somebody registered that address in the meantime.
The screen says the address did not change. Nothing happens to the account.
The link remembers which address was on the account when it was issued. If the account already carries a different address when you open the link, the confirmation is refused for safety.
You do not have to go through email confirmation again. The delivery reputation of your mailbox goes back to a neutral state, because it is a different address.
The event stays in the account activity history, with the previous and the new address. That helps support when you need to prove when the change happened.
Closing the window takes you back to the security screen. Closing it loses no request: a link already sent is still valid.
Common problems
Check the spam folder and confirm you typed the new address correctly. If the address was wrong, just request the change again with the right one; the wrong request stops being valid.
Either the deadline passed, or the link had already been used, or you requested the change again after it. Request the change again and use the link from the most recent message.
That address already belongs to another account of this brand. Use a different address, or open a support ticket if you believe the other account is yours.
Yes, as long as you can sign in, because the confirmation link goes to the new address. If you cannot sign in either, open a support ticket.
Messages that had already left before the change stay at the old address. The next ones go to the new address.
No. The new address arrives already confirmed, because the change itself was confirmed through it.
The change refreshes your account data across every session. If a device keeps showing the old address, sign out and sign in again on it.
