Signing in with Google saves you from creating a password. The button only shows up when the brand offers that method, and what happens next depends on whether an account is already tied to that address.
Step by step
- Open the sign in screen.
- Tap the Google button.
- Pick the Google account and authorise it.
- If you already have a linked account, the site opens already signed in.
- If this is your first time, a screen asks for email, display name and acceptance of the terms.
- Confirm and the account is created.
Important points
The sign in screen asks which methods are available. When a method exists but is not configured, you get a notice saying some methods are unavailable, not a broken button.
Nothing is asked again, not the name, not the terms. The link was made before.
The sign in is refused and the sign in screen says so. That is deliberate: someone who already has an account with that address has to sign in through their usual method and link Google inside Security. That way nobody takes over another person's account just by controlling a similar address.
The screen asks for the email, a display name and acceptance of the terms and privacy. Email and name arrive prefilled with whatever Google reported, when it reports anything.
When Google does not hand over the address, the field arrives empty and you type yours. The rest of the flow is the same.
It works from a single use code generated when you come back from Google. If you take too long and the code stops being valid, the screen says the link expired and offers to go back to sign in, where you simply start again.
In Security you find the methods tied to the account. When you come back from Google, the security screen itself confirms the link.
If Google is your only method and you have no password, the platform refuses the removal. Set a password, or link another method, before unlinking.
Linking and unlinking stay in the account history, with the method and the date.
Common problems
Either the brand does not offer that method, or it is not configured in this environment. When it is the second case, the screen shows an unavailable method notice.
You already have an account with that address, created through another method. Sign in through your usual method and, in Security, link Google. After that the button takes you straight in.
The return could not be completed. That happens when the authorisation is cancelled, when the return takes too long, or when it arrives at a different address than the one that started the flow. Try signing in again.
Go back to sign in and tap the Google button again. A new code is generated.
Yes, through the email change inside Security. The Google link does not change because of it.
Because it is the only way into your account. Create a password or link another method first, and the removal is accepted.
You probably created a new account instead of signing in to the old one. Sign out, sign in through the method you used before, and link Google from inside it.
