A confirmed email is the address that recovers your account and receives withdrawal notices. Confirmation happens through a link sent to you, and changing your address uses the same route.
Step by step
Confirming and changing your email are two similar actions: both finish when you open the link you receive.
- Sign in to your account.
- Open the email confirmation screen and request the link.
- Open the message and click the link to verify the address.
- To change your address, open Security and choose to change the email.
- Enter the new address and send the request.
- Open the link sent to the new address. Only then does the change take effect.
Important points
Each link is valid for a short window and works for one confirmation. When it expires, the screen itself offers to send a fresh one.
Until then your account keeps using the old address to sign in and to receive notices. That protects anyone who left a session open on someone else's device.
If our messages come back, the profile shows an alert saying the address does not receive our email, with a shortcut straight to the change email screen.
In that case there is nothing to confirm. Add an address while completing your profile or through the change email screen, and only then request the confirmation.
Once opened, it is consumed; past the deadline, it stops working. In both cases the way out is to request a new link.
If the account email changed afterwards, the old link is refused. Request the confirmation again from the current address.
When the mail server has already refused messages to that address, the send does not happen. Fixing that goes through support, or through changing the address.
Until the confirmation happens, promotions by email are not sent, even with the switches on. Essential notices keep arriving.
Common problems
Check your spam folder and the address shown in your profile. Then go back to the confirmation screen and request another send. If nothing arrives, change the address to one you can actually open.
That link has expired, was already used, or was copied only halfway. Go back to the email confirmation screen, request a new link, and open it in full.
No. Your account address is already verified and no extra step is needed.
That address is in use on another account. Pick a different address, or sign in to that account if it is also yours. Support can help if you do not recognise it.
You typed the address that is already registered. Enter a different address so the change makes sense.
Repeated requests are rate limited. Wait a little before trying again, and check your inbox before asking for another send.
Yes. The confirmation link is tied to your account, so a session has to be open. Sign in first, then request the link.
Yes. The link remembers the address that was on the account when it was created, and a different address invalidates it.
Yes. Promotions by email depend on the confirmation. Essential notices keep arriving.
